Hip Hop legend GZA and underrated Cypress Hill's producer DJ Muggs teamed up for the creation of Grandmasters, a very impressive release that brought more attention on the talented producer and marked another successful album from Wu-Tang Clan's notorious rapper.
As you can judge by the cover, album title and track names the main theme of the album is the game of Chess, many chess metaphors are used in GZA's verses.
Let me start by talking about the amazing track "Exploitation Of Mistakes", GZA raps about a cover up accident, deep homicide references and brilliant storytelling, a very complex track, a beautiful piano beat makes this one of my favorite songs.
GZA's lyrics are good as always, songs like "Queen's Gambit" and "Destruction Of A Guard" are some that impressed me the most, beats and smart verses are memorable.
Intelligence is something fundamental for a rapper, if you enjoy chess as much as i do you will find this album extremely amusing.
Flow & Lyrics: 9 /10
Beats: 8 /10
Download and enjoy.
